This painting functions as a self-perpetuating visual event—a never ending painting over and extinction of the subject matter (an overpainted auction advertisement which was turned back into a work of art).
Using a palette of glaring gold, copper and a dark red but also a warm and cool grey, the color constantly challenges the viewer's eye through the oxidization of all their different facets, their shading, and the juxtaposition of different hues, and undertones. Defiling the gold leaf and copper surface with the materiality of the paint, the artwork capitalises on the rich and luxurious quality of auction advertisements to draw connotations to beauty and the grotesque.
